February, 1994. Release toughts

PC-TOP release date: 02-01-94. Unbelievable Release! THREE records have been broken: TOP-10 USER (1GB), TOP-10 MONTHLY_USERS (400mb) and TOP-10 GROUP_TOTAL (2GB). Way to go guys especially Painkiller with making two new records, and NATO for breaking the magical 2GigaByte limit! FOFT didn't do so bad either... over 1GigaBytes of great uploads - Nice job guys. One thing is that we definitely need more GROUPS for this competition, now we're only running with TOP-7... and not all of those are 'Real' groups :) And dont forget to check out the incredible PCTOP.FAQ fil'ee. [ Frequently asked questions about PC-TOP ] Q: How many boards are in PC-TOP right now? A: Hmm, 11 I quess... :) Q: How do I know if the board where I'm calling is PC-TOP member? A: You dont, If the sysop will not tell you about it. You just have      to take a quess, but let me say that MAJOR boards in the            PC-SCENE is with us in the PC-TOP... Q: Why dont you list the board names in here? A: Well there is many reasons, but mainly because every sysop dont      want to get to that list. There are sysops who advertise of their      bbs to be in PC-TOP, but not everyone does that. It is allowed      to advertise but nobodys forcing you to advertise the      membership. Q: Why not make TOP-1000 user list? A: Why not make TOP-100,000,000 then? Hehe, I think that      TOP-50 is only listed so few more people can see their ranking      and maybe that will boost some competition around. First I      didn't plan to support top50. I think TOP-1000 (all users) is not      needed... mainly because there is only about 330 users TOTAL      in pc-top list databases. Q: Whats up with the VGA version? A: We are currently doing it... Q: Will it be GUS only? no SB? A: At this moment it will definitely be GUS supporting, and who     knows we might add SB support too. But thats no certain yet.     The plan WAS to make it GUS ONLY! so you cannot watch the     VGA/GUS! version without sound... but... hehe, we dont want to     tease those lamers who still haven't bought gus (shame on you     dudes!). So I think it will be 'User-Friendly' version overall. Q: When is the release date of this VGA/GUS! version? A: Year 2001 at least :) Well seriously, we're doing it and adding all      kinds of stuff in it, so no-one knows when it will be ready.      Stay tuned! Q: Will there be any other statistics in the PC-TOP than these TOP-10      total and monthly users? A: Yes now there is listed TOP-7_GROUPS_TOTAL,            TOP-7_GROUPS_MONTHLY also, I'm still looking for some      nice groups to list there. Other updates are just waiting to be      discovered, maybe somekind of ALL_USERS_TOTAL_BYTES      list, ALL_BOARDS_TOTAL_BYTES etc nice. But nothing is     (once again) sure yet. Q: How can I get my own group for the TOP-xx GROUP list? A: Simple, just leave me a mail about your group name (short/long)     and list all your members with full names. Then if you're okay     in the scene you're in. Q: Can PC-TOP be spreaded to Public Domain bbs's? A: HELL NO! I mean yeah this is not commercial software but you     realize that if all the millions of PD users will get to see this list...     its not a good deal. Of course we cannot prevent this to spread     all over the place but please do NOT upload PC-TOP to any PD     boards! But then again... we dont list any boards here.. and     MAYBE these guys are just trading PD stuff? ... NOT! :-) --- Hopefully someone did find some useful information from this stupid text.
